The Dan Wood Trio is a relatively new project, centred around the compositions and arrangements of Thelonious Monk. The aim is to to rediscover Monks approach to sound in a very respectful way, honouring his values of Swing, the importance of Space, Compositional Improvisation and his unique stylisitic blend of Gospel, Stride Piano, and Blues.
Dan has worked off and on as a session player since graduating from Leeds College of Music. He now teaches piano for a living and feels strongly about the importance of passing on the tradition of creative music making as something for everyone, not just so-called "musicians". He is also one half of The Kramford Look, an original writing project strongly influenced by 70s library and soundtrack music, who realeased their debut album "1970" in 2011, and are releasing their follow up "Bip Bip Bip" in November 2012.
